See what you miss when you’re gone a year??

Image

I was getting  a little home sick today and decided to check out the geocaches in my home town – you know, just to see what’s new. I discovered along a small trail of caches I found, somebody had made some “Geocaching Art” by placing caches in certain places to give the illusion of artwork etc.. now I have to go back and get all these!!

OMG I’ve been so lazy!

I have been here in Korea for 8 months now and haven’t gone geocaching once!! I’ve been busy with work, and traveling and everything, and completely forgot about my favorite hobby in the world! Well it is time to find some, I don’t have much time left so I must get out there!!!

A change for the better

Well it has been a little while since I last posted on here. The weather is finally warming up and it is about time I get out and geocache! I have already spotted a good sized handful in my area and loaded them to my GPS. Unfortunately work will be tying me up for the next week or so but hopefully next weekend I will venture out.

I don’t entirely like the idea of wandering around Korea by myself, hopefully I can talk a friend or two into geocaching with me! We all know its extremely addicting! More to come!

Nothing new as of yet…

Well I haven’t had much opportunity for geocaching here in Korea. I have been working like a slave and it has been either snowing like crazy or just outright frigid outside.. A guy I met here who runs a local geocaching group said that we are gonna hit up some geo-hikes here soon. I can’t wait!

Finally in Korea

So I finally arrived in Korea. I looked up geocaches in my area and there are tons! Unfortunately I discovered my handheld GPSr will not find any satellites here for some odd reason. I looked online and people said they were able to get theirs to work here, so I’m not sure yet… More to come.

International EarthCache Day

Well I haven’t been able to go Geocaching since my Lake Pleasant trip as I’ve been busy with work and packing to go to Korea. I DO plan to hit up the International EarthCache day which is October 14th! I haven’t gotten an EarthCache before so this will be fun, plus I believe you get a souvenir for the event if you log an EarthCache that day. More to come on this!

I also found out that this day marks the first day of earth science week.

Lake Pleasant 2012

Well last weekend was labor day weekend and I had a 4 day weekend. It was also the weekend of my birthday. I decided it would be an awesome opportunity to go camping and geocaching with my 5 year old son!
Friday morning I packed up all of my camping gear and headed up to pick my son up from school in Phoenix. I surprised him by picking him up, as he had no idea that I’d be there.
We had to wait until around 5pm before we could head out because we had to wait on his mom to pack his bag etc.

After finally arriving at the campsite it was getting late so I set up camp as quickly as possible. I made us some hot dogs and s’mores before calling it an early night.
It was still really hot outside and we ended up having to sleep in the car until it cooled off. When we finally got back into the tent a heard of wild burros came through the camp grounds.

The next morning we made some breakfast and go hiking/geocaching before it got too hot. My son had never been geocaching before this weekend. I followed my GPSr to the first cache; it was a quick P&G under a tree by some easy parking on a mountain trail. I showed my son how to follow the arrow on the compass screen of my GPSr and let him hold it so he could show us which way we need to go. GZ was an Unusual Pile of Rocks or a UPR in cacher terms, I told him “look for a pile of rocks”. He quickly figured out what I was talking about and pulled apart the pile to unveil a small Tupperware container. When we opened it I told him about how you have to sign a log every time. He saw a bunch of little toys and trinkets inside and wanted them all. I explained the if you take something you leave something. Luckily I carry a camelbak with some “swag” in it. I pulled out some trinkets for him to leave songs could take some stuff. I had him rehide the cache the way we found it and headed to to the next.

Needless to say he was really excited about geocaching and wanted to keep moving to the next one. We found a total of 8 that weekend which isnt bad for a 5 year old in a rough-terrain mountain area!
